Vida Feliz Camp
What an amazing couple of weeks it's been! We have been so busy at the studio! After celebrating at our Open House and officially opening our doors, we kicked off summer with a Vida Feliz Camp: hosted by my friend, Luz Maria!
Camp was SOLD OUT, filled to the max and full of some amazing kiddos!
During the first day of camp, Luz showed the kids how to make pinatas and maracas! We started this day by letting the kids help make the mixture (Water, Salt, Flour and Glue) - The kids LOVED taking their turns to mix and pour! Talk about a team effort! And they all did it with smiles on their faces.
Day 2 of Camp continued with our pinata making. We finished dipping our newspaper clippings into the mixture and forming the pinatas and maracas; and moved onto the bright colorful phase of adding tissue paper and streamers! This is when all of those little pinatas starting coming to life! Each child chose different colors. Day 2 took a lot of focus and hard work from the kids, and they did so great! I could tell by the end of this camp day, they were a little wiped out, but they all seemed so happy with their creations! Some of our smaller kids needed to move and take a little breather, so I made sure to fill one of our tables with play dough ... the kids loved the play dough and I think it made for a good time to chit chat with each other.
Day 3 of camp was our last day. We finished adding our streamers to our balloons and maracas. Luz helped the kids glue their cones to their pinata tops ... forming an ice cream cone! So cute! We then got out the beans (uncooked, obviously lol) and started pouring them into the maracas! This of course was fun to watch. The kids were shaking their maracas, wiggling around with smiles on their face.
We wrapped up camp with a couple of special activities. Luz gathered the kids in a circle and talked about an orphanage that she spends time at in Mazatlan, Mexico. She explained what an orphanage was and how she loves to volunteer there. We then got out paper, markers and crayons and had the kids all make a special card for the kids in the orphanage. Luz will be sending those out soon!
As camp came to a close, Luz helped the kids make tortilla dough
(which they then took home to cook!)
I cannot say enough about this camp! As our first camp of the summer, it was a perfect way to bring some life into the studio! SO much color. SO much culture and SO much fun!
We enjoyed every minute with these kids.
Watching them learn and grow in such a short period of time was so inspiring!
Much love,
Ashley
